Here are three reasons why you may want to take advantage of a one-on-one meeting with Dr. Diana Gustafson.
First, you will get guidance from a twenty-year academic veteran and expert in academic writing. Over her career, Dr. Gustafson has supported hundreds of learners in drafting and revising theses, literature reviews, journal articles, and op-eds. She understands the challenges learners face and will offer practical, substantive suggestions and competent direction to help bring out your writerly best and maximize the impact of your work.
Second, you have two options, you can choose either I) to receive specific feedback on a single issue you identify in a manuscript (or section of a manuscript) of your choosing; or II) to discuss a specific question relating to your research or writing plan.
Third, you will get 30-minutes of personalized one-to-one time and receive constructive tailored feedback to help you clarify your objectives, strengthen your argument, and boost your research efforts for maximum effect. These consultations are particularly beneficial for graduate students or new faculty looking to transform a thesis or other writing project into publishable papers.
What to Expect
What should you expect from this appointment and how do you prepare? Learner’s questions vary, here are some examples:
Option I: I have a draft manuscript. Is the message clear? Is the manuscript well organized? Is the argument well supported? What can be enriched? Thinned?
With this option, to get the most from your experience, you will have to submit your text/manuscript (up to 6,000 words maximum*) at least ONE week prior to your chosen appointment time.
When submitting your manuscript, you will also be asked to identify the issue that you would like to discuss during your appointment.
Option II: I have findings that I want to share with the world. How do I narrow down my message? How do I identify and develop my hook? How do I split up my writing into manageable pieces?
With this option, you can choose to share your question in advance, or you can just come to the appointment with your question in-hand.
*A typical journal-length article or book chapter. Alternatively, you can upload an abstract or section of your project, such as the literature review, introduction, or conclusion.
Moving Forward
Does it end with one meeting? No. If you are interested in follow-up sessions with Dr. Gustafson, you can schedule time in the future to revisit the same issue, discuss other writing challenges, or even have Dr. Gustafson review your manuscript again. Details about how to book follow-up consultation sessions or other feedback services will be posted soon.
